Alcohol

Hey guys....  I'm approaching my 6 month mark and I'll be allowed to have an alcoholic drink. I'm not a big drinker by any stretch of the imagination. Prior to surgery I maybe had 2 or 3 drinks a YEAR.   BUT, I was curious as to what we can drink.  I'm pretty sure my Kahluah and cream drink is probably out.  Kahluah seems like it would have too much sugar in it.  So what do you guys drink if I did on the off chance want a drink?  Light beer?  Diet coke and rum sounds awful.  Is there any "fruity" type drinks you can drink?

Thanks!!!

beer has carbonation... so that would be out... unless you are allowed carbonation....

fruity type drinks are going to have high sugar... if you don't dump have at it.

personally I would think wine or straight drinks like whisky or scotch if you must drink.

Carbonation, forgot about that. Nope, can't have that. Even a little bubbly is uncomfortable for me.  I never "have" to drink, I was just curious to see what people do drink.    Wouldn't wine have a lot of sugar in it?  I have no clue about that kind of stuff....

Some do, the fruity ones do.

a drier wine might work.

I'm SCARED to drink to be honest....

Me too! LOL!!!  People tried to get me to have a drink at a company party a few weeks back and I said "If I'm gonna try my first drink, it's gonna be home where I'm safe, not surrounded by my co-workers!"  LOL!!!

That's a good choice. I had my first drink 8 months out at a birthday outing with my sister, my husband and my best friend. so, I knew I was in good hands. Just like with food, it's going to be trial and error and even then, it might not be the same everytime. I truly cannot predict how alcohol will hit me. Some days, 1 beer and I am good and tipsy. Other days, not so much.

Try things at home, and take it slow.

My drink of choice has been white wine.  (Actually I completely quit now. The calories were just not worth it for me.)   But about 8months-1 year out I did ok with 'one' White Russian on occasion.  After all - there's protein in the cream...lol.  Don't forget all the empty calories though.  that's why I say, just one!!!  For beer, if the carbonation doesn't bother you, Mich Ultra is ok at times.    Stay away from drinks that have a lot of juice and the drinks mixed with soda.  A good Cosmo is always good since it's only a splash of cranberry.  Be safe and never drive!

You could always do wine with Sprite zero garnighes with some fruit...that's a little sweet. "Wne spritzer".

I take Crystal Light To Go packets with me and order a glass of water and a shot of vodka. I mix a little of the Crystal Light into the water, add the shot, and have an instant sugar free ****tail. One of those lasts me all night.

I don't dump on fruit or fruit juice, so I can also do Malibu with pineapple juice. If you can handle carbonation, rum and diet coke with lime is another safe choice.

A really good friend of mine, takes water with a flavor pack, and adds alchol that way. That way she knows it is sugar free, and she knows what she is drinking.
